7 Weird / Weirdest Android Phones and Devices 2011 Volume 1 Smallest, Most Fun, Desk, Most Expensive, Most Italian

By

Introduction

2010 has been a good year for Android phones as there are some of the most interesting Android phones. There are the smallest (Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini), biggest (Dell Streak 5), and the brightest (Samsung Galaxy Beam), and so on.

There are a few more phones missing from the weird list, and 2011 has brought a few more candidates, so it is now time to find a few more weird Android phones.

If you want to learn about some other weird Android devices, see my other hub.

The Greenest Android

Intivation is a new player in the Android arena, and its entry will be loved by all treehuggers. That's a solar cell on the rear, and it is expected to retail for merely $100 USD off contract. It will run Android 2.2 Froyo, but probably with an anemic CPU and only 256MB memory. There is even a LED headlight. It will first appear in Europe. No idea if it will come to the US.

The Most Entertaining Android

For that title, it must be the Sony Xperia Play, aka the "Playstation Phone". It is an Android phone that has Playstation Controller underneath. Slide up the screen to reveal the gamepad.

It does not appear to run any PSP games, but instead will be compatible with some exclusive games and online play via "Playstation Hub" which will allow you to transfer games back and forth between the phone and the console.

The Most Schizo Tablet

While this is not a phone, this is as schizophrenic as the phone mentioned before from China that dual boost Windows Mobile and Android.

The Viewsonic ViewPad 10 Pro dual boots Android 2.2... and Windows 7 Professional. That's right, regular Windows 7, not Windows Phone 7. And not that anemic Windows 7 starter edition either. The real thing.

The Most Italian Android

Did you know that there's a Lamborghini Android phone? There really is. Torino Lamborghini is the brand from the Italian car maker making "lifestyle" products, and they launched an Android smartphone in Asia called the Evoluzione, at a very premium price: about $600 USD. It appeared in Singapore first. Spec-wise, it is low-end now, with a mere 600 MHz CPU and ships with Android 2.1 Eclair.

The Most Immobile Android

Huawei is a Chinese brand that is known for making cheaper phones.

So it's a surprise to see them making... regular desk phones, that still run Android OS.

Well, if Motorola can make a HOME cordless phone run Android, why can't Huawei make a BUSINESS desk corded phone run Android?

Phandroid even asked whether the idea is DOA or not.

The Most Expensive Android

You thought the Lamborghini Android phone was expensive? You haven't met the Ulysse Nardin Chairman.

MSRP? $50000 USD. That's right, FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Granted, it's a VERY nice phone, and it comes with a special case that's a docking station, accessory pack, complete with cables and external speakers.

This actually came out in 2010 and this phone is OLD and underpowered now. But it should still be the most expensive Android phone.

The FIRST 3D Android

This is the LG Optimus 3D.

UPDATE: HTC just launched the Evo 3D, so this is the FIRST 3D Android.

It has 2 rear-facing 5MP cameras to give it true 3D stereoscopic vision, and its display is also 3D capable using similar technology to Nintendo 3DS. The cameras will do 1080p, and the CPU is a dual-core. However, if you tilt the phone, you may lose the 3D effect.
